Day 7 - about my camera

I'm kind of bored with my pictures today, but that's ok. I was going to tell you about my camera anyway. I have always been told that I have a good "eye" for photography, but I've never had anything other than a cheap point & shoot film camera, and then a couple of nice digital cameras - nothing fancy. One day I discovered the coolest spider in my backyard, and wanted to take pictures. However, my P&S just wouldn't focus on it and it was very frustrating. So I started researching dSLR cameras (digital single lens reflex). They are pretty expensive, so I put it off for my next big purchase. However, my sweet husband surprised me with the perfect camera for me in July of 2007, right before we went to Maine on vacation.

It is a Nikon D40 and I love it! It has an automatic setting, plus several "idiot" settings like most P&S cameras. But it also has 4 manual settings, so I can play around with it. The first thing I did was to go take pictures of that spider, and the D40 didn't disappoint! See?

Since then I've taken I don't know how many photos with it, and I hate to use the little P&S anymore! The D40 is definitely not as convenient to carry around, but I make do. We took it hiking in Maine, and on several bicycle trips around Savannah. As long as I don't crash, the camera is safe ;-)

So, here are today's shots. The first one I took out my backdoor this afternoon after a brief rain shower. I was going for something different, but ended up liking the reflection of outside in the door window panes. If I were to take this shot again (and I might :p), I would frame it so that half is door and half is reflection.

The second picture I took while lying on my bed watching The Biggest Loser. I love reality tv, and this is one of my favorite shows. I was playing (again) with exposure and shutter speeds.

I should be embarrassed at how badly I need to dust lol. I had fun with the camera with a fast shutter speed, catching the fan blades going around while continuously taking shots. It was like a little movie. But I won't bore you with more pictures of my dusty ceiling fan.

Good night all! I'm off to dust (yeah right).

That is SOME spider! What a nice husband to make sure that you had what you needed to fully explore your calling! Thank you for sharing your camera stats and your photos with the world!

On another note: Who do you want to win? I think I'm going for Allie... she looks terrific! I can't believe how much Mark cries on that show! LOL

I was going to say something about the crying - I nearly fell off the bed when Mark's wife told him he needed to toughen up! Even she is tired of it lol! Yes, I really want Allie to win - she looks GREAT! I've already decided that I'll be voting next week (it's the first time I'll vote for a reality show contest). Thanks again Cheryl!!
