I had a lot of fun with it, once I figured out the idea! To shoot the books, I finally set up my fancy new lightbox kit (one clear plastic bin, two clip-on lights, one piece of white posterboard, and 2 binder clips). Here's a few shots from the light box.Saturday, April 26, 2008
Day 27 - project photo and white box tries
I think I've mentioned that I post in a photography forum. Each week we have a theme for which we post pictures for critique. The themes are usually pretty "easy", but this week it was wide open for interpretation. The theme was "Inheritance Diptych." Yeah, what huh?!?!?!? That's what I said too. I was supposed to take two shots - one of something that was passed down to me and one of something I will pass to my (hopefully soon to be) children. I had no clue. Well, that's wrong - I had lots of ideas, but no clue how to shoot them. So I started walking around the house looking for ideas - nothing. Then I brainstormed with a friend - we came up with a terrific idea that I was very excited about, until DH said, "what huhhhhhh?!?!?!" HA! So I did some more walking around, and ended up in front of my sewing machine. My mom made all my dresses when I was a child, and she taught me how to sew. I don't do much anymore, certainly no clothes, but I did make the window treatments for the sunroom (window treatments sounds so much nicer than curtains, doesn't it? :D). So, I set up my tripod, used my remote, and took a dozen shots of me sewing. Part 1 done. Then I started thinking about something I love that I hope to pass on to my kid(s). There's lots that I love: animals (dogs!), tennis, running, reading...ah reading...my eyes lit upon all the travel books in my bookcase and - lightbulb moment! - I knew that what I want to pass on is my love of travel. So, there we have it: Inheritance Diptych

I still need practice at the lightbox stuff - my white background isn't as white in the pictures as it should be, and the whites certainly aren't consistent between pictures.

Inheritance Diptych---diggin it! i really like the sepia tones and the way the sewing hands are lit up from the inside...well, with my stunted use of terminology, you can tell i'm no photographer! LOL And, the travel books to epitomize your love of travel really was sheer genius! Great job!
