Day 6 - playing with shutter speed and light

It's starting to be hard to keep track of days ha! Mondays are my heavy workout days, and I didn't even think about taking a picture until after 8pm and by then my arms were soooooo tired I was afraid I couldn't lift the camera. I'm being a baby, and of course I could lift the camera.

Since it was already dark, I decided to make today's learning experience be about light, and taking pictures without using the flash. I put the camera in Manual, and played around with the aperture and shutter speed - it's finally coming together in my head (although I still can't do the math on the fly). So, these pictures aren't "good" pictures, but I accomplished what I set out to do.

First picture is of our liquor cabinet in the darkened dining room. The only light sources were the tv about 25 ft away, and the light spilling from the kitchen. We aren't big drinkers, but I thought all the bottles were pretty.

The next picture is...well ok...it IS pretty, but that's because it's hard to take bad pictures of our beautiful kitty Callie. Callie was sleeping in the sunroom (only light source was an open laptop in the same room) until I rudely interrupted her. Fortunately, she is a happy little kitty, posed for me then went back to sleep.

The final picture is one I've been wanting to try. It's a goof really, and I had to crop my head out because I have awful post-workout hair and was making horrible faces. But you can see most of my body - except my legs disappeared! I'm the opposite of Captain Dan! F/4.5 and 6 second exposure. Fun, huh? Next time I'll wear my white dress and maybe it will be creepy :D (I wanted to do this in the cemetery yesterday, but it wasn't dark enough).

I just realized, as I was typing, that I've never told y'all about my camera! I'll have to do that tomorrow! Until then dear reader(s)!

I'm impressed! I love all the pix... the pretty kitty, the creep factor of the headless shot and, of course, the yummy liquor! LOL

I'm impressed to hear about all of the work that goes into your shots! (I just always put the digital on 'auto' and point and click... and they usually don't come out that great!)
