Day 5 - Midway Cemetery

Today I headed to Midway Cemetery to take some shots for an online challenge for a photography forum I visit. The cemetery was established in 1754 by a group of Puritans from Dorchester, South Carolina. The 1,200 graves include those of two Revolutionary Way generals and one Georgia governor. It was kind of creepy being there, not only because of the whole cemetery thing, but because it's not a great part of town.

I wasn't too pleased with the photos as I was taking them (and viewing them on the LCD screen), but when I got home and played with them in Picasa I realized I really like them. I know there are people who don't believe in post-processing, but I look at it as a way to extend the art, and make the art better. And there is a difference in removing pieces of a picture through post-processing and making the colors look better.

I had a really hard time choosing which photos to post today. I decided to pick one in color (that doesn't give off a creepy vibe at all) and one in B&W that just screams creepy! You tell me what you think.

This is the grave of Gen. James Screven, a Revolutionary War hero for whom a GA county is named. I really love the wisteria in the picture and the colors of the brick.

This next one isn't one of my favorites, but I love how dark and creepy it turned out.

The cemetery is really gorgeous, and I would like to go again near dusk or even after dark. But only if my husband will go with me, because I'm a big chicken :D

Nice! While I'm generally a fan of b&w cemetery pix (b/c of the creep factor! LOL) I do love the composition of your color shot. The colors really sit nicely against each other.
